About
EVITA is a Europe-wide initiative dedicated to strengthening skills in High-Performance Computing (HPC) and emerging technologies. Funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and coordinated by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, EVITA brings together leading universities, research institutions, supercomputing centres, and training providers to build a cohesive, high-quality learning ecosystem for Europe’s digital future.

Our Mission
Competence and Qualification Framework
Building a unified Competence and Qualification Framework (CQF) that defines the skills needed across the HPC landscape. This framework guides the development of harmonised training materials, modular learning units, and flexible courses that can be combined into personalised learning pathways.
Developing training modules and Qualification Framework
Announcing public calls, implemented through cascade funding mechanisms, to support the development of new short, modular training units, enabling external experts and organizations to apply for funding and contribute reusable and adaptable content across Europe, thereby supporting scalable, interoperable, and sustainable HPC education and training offerings.
Structured Learning Paths Based on the Skill Tree
Providing structured tools, such as the Skill Tree, to support the design of coherent learning pathways that guide learners through progressive skill development. These pathways enable the systematic acquisition of competencies aligned with defined skill levels, certifications, and professional profiles, supporting transparent qualification processes and targeted career development within the HPC ecosystem.
Consortium
EVITA is a collaborative effort driven by a strong network of leading universities, supercomputing centers, and research institutions across Europe. Each partner brings unique expertise in high-performance computing, education, and innovation, contributing to the design, development, and implementation of EVITA’s training framework and digital infrastructure. Together, we are building a cohesive and sustainable European training ecosystem that supports the next generation of HPC talent and ensures broad access to high-quality learning opportunities.

BSC is the national supercomputing centre in Spain, known for pioneering research and training in high-performance computing (HPC). It coordinates the EVITA project and co-leads several work packages, including the Competence and Qualification Framework (CQF) (WP2), the EuroHPC Training Platform (WP5), and the Virtual Training Academy (WP6). It also leads the impact assessment and contributes to the long-term governance and sustainability of EVITA.

Politecnico di Milano is a leading Italian technical university specializing in engineering, architecture, and design. In EVITA, it co-leads the creation of the EuroHPC Virtual Training Academy (WP6) and contributes to defining the project’s governance structure and sustainability model.

TU Wien is one of Austria’s premier technical universities with a strong focus on innovation and education in science and technology. It co-leads the development of the EVITA CQF (WP2) and contributes to expanding materials management features of the EuroHPC Training Platform (WP5).

Linköping University is a research-driven institution in Sweden, well-regarded for its interdisciplinary approach to science and education. LiU co-leads the acquisition and quality assurance of training modules (WP4) and contributes to platform development (WP5). It also helps define pedagogical standards and supports the pilot training module creation process.

HLRS, part of the University of Stuttgart, is one of Europe’s leading HPC centres, offering services for research and industry. It co-leads the implementation of the CQF (WP3), the development of the EuroHPC Training Platform (WP5), and the dissemination and communication strategy (WP7). It also contributes to the governance structure and quality monitoring.

GWDG is a joint IT competence and data centre operated by the University of Göttingen and the Max Planck Society. It co-leads the implementation of the CQF (WP3), focusing on curating the skill tree, surveying existing qualification schemes, establishing an examination system, and setting up certifications for EVITA training modules.

The University of Luxembourg is a multilingual, international research university recognized for its strong ICT and STEM programs. It leads the sustainability planning (WP6) and external adoption strategy (WP7). It also supports the definition of the body of knowledge (WP2), skill tree development (WP3), pedagogical framework design (WP4), and pilot module creation.

IT4Innovations is the Czech Republic’s national supercomputing center, hosted at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava. It co-leads training module acquisition and quality assurance (WP4), and dissemination and communication strategy (WP7). It contributes to trainer empowerment, pilot module creation, and stakeholder outreach.

Synergies
EVITA is part of a broader European effort to strengthen High-Performance Computing (HPC) training and education. It works in close collaboration with other key initiatives such as HPC SPECTRA, CASTIEL2 and EUMaster4HPC to align strategies, share knowledge and ensure coherence across the European HPC ecosystem. These partnerships enhance EVITA’s impact by connecting it with ongoing work in community building, curriculum development and training resource integration.
HPC SPECTRA is an EU-funded initiative focused on building a pan-European training portal for High-Performance Computing (HPC) education. It is now part of the HPC in Europe Portal, which serves as the central platform for sharing HPC-related information across Europe. EVITA will work closely with HPC SPECTRA to develop and maintain the training portal. Once HPC SPECTRA comes to an end, EVITA will take over the platform and continue improving it.

CASTIEL2 is a European coordination and support action that continues the work of CASTIEL by coordinating the National Competence Centres (NCCs) for High-Performance Computing (HPC). In this second phase, several sector-specific Centres of Excellence (CoEs) have been integrated to complement the regionally focused NCCs. CASTIEL2 facilitates structured collaboration and knowledge exchange between these key infrastructures, supporting cooperation on technical topics, training, and outreach. EVITA will collaborate with CASTIEL2 to contribute to community-building, and ensure the visibility and accessibility of outcomes through the HPC in Europe Portal. This synergy will help align communication and training activities across the European HPC landscape.

EuroCC 2 continues the work of EuroCC by supporting National Competence Centres (NCCs) for High-Performance Computing (HPC) across Europe. These centres serve as national hubs for HPC expertise, training, and industry engagement. EuroCC 2 works closely with CASTIEL2 to strengthen collaboration and foster a cohesive European HPC ecosystem.
Project info

EUMaster4HPC is a European master’s programme that sets standards for advanced HPC education through a collaborative network of universities and supercomputing centres. EVITA will build on the insights and outcomes of EUMaster4HPC to align its modular training offer with academic curricula and industry needs. This collaboration ensures coherence across HPC education pathways and supports the development of a unified European HPC training ecosystem.
